In-Home Care
You Can Trust

Aging in one’s own home, commonly referred to as “aging in place,” holds a myriad of advantages that resonate deeply with individuals seeking to maintain their independence, comfort, and sense of identity as they grow older. Quality in-home care makes it possible for an aging person to continue living in independence from their own home. Gentle Shepherd Care offers quality in-home care services

First and foremost, home is more than just a physical space; it’s where memories were made, family and friends gathered, and a place of independence. For many seniors, the thought of leaving behind the place where they’ve built a lifetime of experiences and connections can be emotionally daunting. Aging in place allows them to stay connected to their memories, surrounded by the people and possessions that bring them comfort and joy.

Furthermore, aging in place promotes a sense of control and self-determination over one’s life. In their own home, seniors may have to adjust the way that they’ve been living but they can still maintain access to views, art, or other items that bring them comfort. As long as possible they can have a say in their care and lifestyle. They can also enjoy privacy and quiet. From choosing what to eat for breakfast to deciding when to go to bed, aging in place empowers individuals to live on their own terms, fostering a sense of dignity and agency.

Aging in place also allows the elderly to navigate their surroundings with confidence, mitigating the risk of falls and accidents associated with unfamiliar environments. Moreover, the emotional support provided by family, friends, and neighbors who are part of the community further enhances feelings of wellbeing and belonging.

Practically speaking, aging in place can also be a more cost-effective option for seniors. While there may be initial expenses associated with modifying the home for aging-related needs, such as installing grab bars or ramps, these investments are often outweighed by the long-term savings compared to the cost of assisted living or nursing home care.

Gradually adding the support they need from an in-home care agency also allows the costs involved to be managed on a slower basis instead of the sudden cost of assisted living. Our staff is able to start at the level needed and increase as needed. Recently, a client’s daughter shared with us that the cost savings was substantial. Memory care would have cost $100K per year; whereas, in-home caregivers were gradually increased and the cost was $100K over several years.

Aging in place offers a multitude of benefits that appeal to individuals who value independence, familiarity, and autonomy as they age. By remaining in their own homes, seniors can maintain a sense of control over their lives, preserve cherished memories, and enjoy the comfort and security of familiar surroundings, all while fostering a greater sense of well-being and belonging within their community.
